The Mortgage Street Smarts of where mortgage interest rates are going (and why):

The following information is current as of Friday 1-4-2013 and will help you understand today's best mortgage rates. If you are a Buyer/Borrower who is still on the fence (or if you are a Real Estate Agent attempting to educate your "on the fence" Buyer), please review these trends and secure an historically low interest rate before it is too late.

The market closed Thursday with a SIGNIFICANT WORSENING to pricing (and will typically warrant a pricing adjustment by most Lenders). Thursday's SIGNIFICANT WORSENING netted a change of 69 basis points (bps).

I believe this bumpy start will settle down next week, as we take a closer look at the Fed position, and Washington can still play its part by not increasing our debt allowance.

My position on MBS stays Neutral.

Market Commentary (Dan Rawitch)

Here is the link to todays video http://www.ratewatch.com/ratewatchnow.html

YIKES...  As you know the FOMC minutes were very hostile to the PRECEPTION of Bonds.  The Fed expressed concerns about their balance sheet.  WELL GOOD!  I am glad they are concerned about all of this stimulas.  The bottom line is that the markets are brilliant and all knowing and the Fed really never could control long-term rates.  The market will vote for low rates all by themselves and they dont need the Fed causing confusion.  Fundamentals suggest a rapidly weakening economy in 2013 and thus... 10 Year that most likely touches 1.25% before the end of the year

For now, brace yourself for an over-reaction that COULD take us down to 103.00.  Before that happens, we most likely that a run back up to 104.20
